"Hello Kitty Stump Village" Vol. 4: Hurrah for Comrade Kitty!

Workers of the world, rejoice! A new DVD volume chronicling the adventures of the friend of the proletariat, Hello Kitty, has been released by the capitalist running dogs of Geneon. Clearly, their burning desires for filthy lucre have blinded them to the fact that Hello Kitty Stump Village Vol. 4: Time to Dig In!, an informational video aimed at children, describes the glorious worker's paradise of Communism. To wit: we witness Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, and Pompompurin living a perfectly idyllic existence in the Proletarian Paradise of Stump Village, which clearly lives by the credo, "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs" (accepting for convenience, of course, the fascist linguistic structures that are designed to denigrate and belittle the contributions of our glorious sisters in the global class struggle). Together, they are strong, just as we all must be strong to shed the chains imposed on us by the capitalist overlords of the world.

Of course, if you will forgive the opiate-of-the-masses terminology, Hello Kitty's worker's Eden is made all the more poignant by the introduction of a serpent—in this case, the bourgeois capitalist pig stand-in character Bad Batz-Maru. Unlike the selfless laborers represented by the other characters, Batz-Maru represents the profiteering labor "leader" intent on the maximum extraction of capital from the sweat of the brows of the exploited working classes. In a clever touch, Batz-Maru is modeled after a penguin, allowing the comrades who created the cartoons to model (and mock) him as a twisted mirror image of the tuxedo-clad capitalist bourgeois icon of "Monopoly," thus countering the early indoctrination into capitalist hegemony and the exploitation of labor. Stump Village is nothing if not a naked exposure of exactly how empty the pursuit of the almighty Dollar truly is. It takes little to intuit the meaning behind the closing moments of this disc, when Batz-Maru desires awards he has not rightly earned through his own labor and seeks to cheat his way to them, only to be undone by his own machinations. Indeed, his outright theft is rewarded in a most appropriately poetic way as he is struck and seemingly killed by lightning right before the final end credits roll on this DVD.
